SUMMARY OF AS 4775:2007  EMERGENCY SHOWER & EYEWASH EQUIPMENT

  • Flushing fluid should be tepid, between 16 and 32 degrees Celsius (check with medical advisor for optimum temperature) and free of contamination
  • operated weekly to check the safety shower and eyewash are working correctly
  • annual audits should be CARRIED out and tested against the AS4775:2007 STANDARD
  • safety shower and eyewash need to be connected to a supply that will allow for a minimum of 15 minutes of operation
  • safety shower and eyewash should be third party verified to insure compliance meets the AS4775:2007 Standard
  • Shower and eyewash combination units shall be capable of operating individually and simultaneously 

 Eye/Face Washes

  • Eye/face washes must deliver a minimum of 11.4 litres per minute
  • Eyewash outlets shall be protected from airborne contaminates by way of covers
  • Provide flushing fluid to both eyes at a velocity low enough to be non-injurious
  • be Activated in one second or less, and be Hands free once activated
  • the Height from the standing surface shall be a minimum of 880mm and a maximum of 1143mm 

Showers

  • shall have a Minimum flow of 75.7 litres per minute
  • must be Activated in one second or less and remain in Hands free operation once activated 
  • the Height from the standing surface shall be no less than 2083mm and no more than 2438mm to the underside of shower head
  • the Shower water spray pattern shall be no less than 508mm in diameter at 1524mm above standing surface
  • the Centre of the shower head shall be located at least 406mm away from any obstructions (not including the eyewash)
  • the water Supply pipe needs to be able to supply enough pressure and volume, and be of potable/drinking QUALITY, a 1" water supply pipe is RECOMMENDED
  • Minimum operating water supply pressure is - 210kpa
